Teen care
We consider a young woman’s overall health an important matter. Although adolescents and young women don’t need their first
Pap test until age 21 the American College Obstetricians and
Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends adolescent girls have their first visit with an OB/GYN between the ages of 13 and 15. Your teen’s initial appointment can be
intimidating, but we encourage any family to consider scheduling this initial visit at the family’s discretion. LPW is also pleased to assist you when it is time to have a conversation about sexual
development.
LPW is able to offer our patients ages 9 to 26 the new Gardasil
vaccine. This vaccine has been recommended by ACOG because it will protect against certain strains of the Human Papillomavirus. This virus (HPV) is a collection of viruses that cause warts on the hands, feet, and genitals. Some HPVs are sexually transmitted and also cause cervical cancer.
Gardasil is the only human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of HPV. These strains of the virus are responsible for 70 percent
of cervical cancer and
90 percent of genital
warts. The vaccine requires 3 doses given over a 6 month period to be effective. Our physicians will help you decide if the Gardasil vaccine is right for you
or your child. Please verify with your insurance company that the vaccine is a covered service.
